Overview
Your success in the course depends on the amount of time you spend outside of class helping to further develop your language skills. There are several places to access additional information and to practice what you have learned in previous years.
Summer Practice
You need to practice the 4 important language skills of speaking, reading, writing, and listening. There are several different ways to do this, however you are required to do the following assignments over the summer.
Reading:
You will pick one small short German book to read over the summer. Your choices are: Die Drei ??? Kids: Panik in Paradies or Die Drei ??? Kids: Radio Rocky Beach.
Panik in Paradies
Radio Rocky Beach
Writing:
As you read, you will create a journal, writing brief 2 to 3 sentence summaries of each chapter. These summaries should help you to review grammatical structures, vocabulary, and to demonstrate your understanding of the book. Use the corresponding links for your book summaries. These documents will help guide you as you progress through the book.
Listening:
Over the course of the summer, you should view periodic videos, TV series, or Films to help improve your listening skills. I encourage you to begin by subscribing to the Goethe-Institut´s YouTube channel. Here are numerous videos and language learning series to help you develop your German language skills. There are 3 full length German films on YouTube as well about the Empress Sissi (who married Franz Josef). The 3 film series are titled Sissi, Sissi - die junge Kaiserin, and Sissi - Schicksalsjahre einer Kaiserin. There are other videos and films that you can find, but not all are appropriate for all viewers.
Speaking:
After watching a German movie or TV episode, create a podcast or recording using only German. Describe the movie/episode. What did you find interesting or educational? Would you recommend the movie/episode, why or why not? The recording should be 2 minutes in length. Here is a short wiki-How detailing how to digitally record your voice.
